AEW got their TV deal. Which for all intents and purposes seems to be a good deal for them, so now what? Financially they seem to be in a good spot, but ratings and ticket sales appear to be struggling. They appear to be losing 150-200k viewers per year, if that continues for 3 more years they’ll have somewhere between 200-300k viewers left. If their ticket woes continue for 3 more years at what appears to be their current pace they’ll be running 1000-1500 seat arenas to have any shot of a full house weekly. So the question to me is now what? They’ve got 3 years to turn this around, what do they need to do?
If you are asking me, the major problem that they have is that the booking is terrible. It’s that simple to me. Look at the biggest program that they have: Mox and Bryan. I know Mox said words to try and explain why he attacked his friend, but it made no sense to me. Look back to when Mariah May turned on Toni Storm. She said that everyone knew she was going to do it, so she did it. The stories that AEW tells are largely terrible and it comes at a time when WWE is doing just the opposite. People are tuning out the show because they want more than just wrestling. They want to know who the wrestlers are the reason why they are wrestling.
Why do you refer to NXT as WWE NXT?
Personally? I refer to it as NXT but WWE itself calls it "WWE NXT" so that is its official name. My guess is that they want the WWE name on it so if a fan with no knowledge of it sees the show listed, they know it's affiliated with WWE.
I know Uncle Dummy and his loss of credibility is old news…but his most recent defense of getting bullsh** called on him by the Rock shows just how little regard he has for his readers & how bulletproof he seems to think he is. Did you hear his response?…Something to the effect of “Well as of Thursday he (ROCK) wasn’t gonna be at Mania-so if something has changed, I’ll find out….as long as it is CONFIRMED by when it needs to get CONFIRMED by, cause they will want to have it CONFIRMED going into the Rumble”….Do you think it even dawned on him that he basically just admitted to putting a story out without confirming it? I know he has done it before, but this may be the first time where’s he readily admitted it….although being too f***ing dense to realize it!!!
A LOT of you sent questions like this about Dave Meltzer’s latest gaffe so I went with this. Meltzer “reported” that The Rock wasn’t going to be at WrestleMania and Rock called him out on his lie. It’s just the new norm for him. Clearly, he didn’t get The Rock “story” confirmed before he “reported” it but that is what he does. At this point, he is what he is and people need to realize that and accept him as such. Believe what he says at your own risk.
Why do you think modern day fans have become so obsessed and toxic towards the size (height) of a wrestler lately? I often see comments on social media saying "he or she" are too small.
I don’t think it’s obsession, I think it’s that a lot of fans aren’t into watching a performance, they want things to be believable. For example, when The Young Bucks do their Road Warrior act on bigger men, it’s clear to people they are performing because what they are doing is totally unrealistic and unbelievable. Some fans love that. Most fans don’t. Little people very rarely beat up big people so the size of the wrestler is part of the overall presentation.
Do you think it's because of tribalism as WWE 's top stars include Roman Reigns and Rhea Ripley who are obviously taller than most and AEW's include Bryan Danielson and Mercedes Mone who are more normal sized or do you think its just pure stupidity snd just straight up toxic hate?
It is interesting that you mentioned tribalism and “toxic hate”. It seems to me that you are being the tribalist here. Clearly, you like the niche version of wrestling, where performance matters more than realism. That’s fine but you are in the minority. That doesn’t make the majority tribalist or hateful. It just means when they watch something that screams WE ARE PERFORMING they aren’t interested in it. And, it’s not just WWE fans. As the question about aptly noted, even former AEW fans have stopped watching the product. There is a reason for that and it’s not tribalism or hate.
