Vince Russo recently did an interview where he said that he expects Paul Levesque to eventually be gone from WWE and that he would be replaced with Brian Gewirtz due to the relationship that Gewirtz has with The Rock. Is Russo blowing smoke or is there something there?
First, let me say that I did not hear the interview with Russo. He is no longer in the business so I don’t have to submit myself to listening to him speak, thank God. With that said, I can’t tell you that he is off base here. I can’t say he is on base either, but certainly Gewirtz is tight with The Rock, who is tight with Nick Khan and Ari Emanuel. We have already seen Rock wield his influence in WWE since his return. Will he get HHH replaced? I can’t say one way or the other. All I can say is that I hope not because HHH has done a fantastic job with WWE Creative.
What did you think of Mike Johnson calling Dave Meltzer the Rudy Giuliani of wrestling?
I think it was the perfect comparison. For a short time, after 9/11, Giuliani was universally revered for how he handled New York City after the 9/11 attacks. As time went on however, people saw who him for what he really was and by the time he entered the twilight of his career, people saw him as a bumbling goof with a bad hair dye job. Dave Meltzer is indeed the Rudy Giuliani of pro wrestling reporters.
Just piggy backing off Dave Meltzer and Tony Khan’s nostalgia nonsense. Do these 2 not realize they have Taz, Jericho, and Jerry Lynn under contract? The FTW title was on AEW TV for years and RVD has wrestled multiple matches. I swear dealing with Dave, Tony and AEW fans is very similar to debating someone who moves the goal post constantly.
∫I don’t have an issue if Tony makes excuses. Sure, they are transparent but he is the owner so I expect that kind of PR from him. As for Meltzer? Well, that’s and example of why he is the Rudy Giuliani of pro wrestling reporters.
WWE starting to worry/panic after the horrendous issues Netflix is having tonight with the Tyson live broadcast?
I don’t think so, not in the least. A whole lot more people were tuning in for the fight than will tune in for Raw. It’s a good test for Netflix to stress the system to see where weakness is before they air the NFL on Christmas. If I were WWE, I would be happy that they are doing the tests now. Plus, even if there are buffering issues, they are getting paid $500M a year!
Do you think if something like Triller TV was around in the mid-90’s ECW would still be operating?
No, I don’t. In my opinion, it would not have been able to generate the revenue that ECW needed to stay afloat at the level that they needed to be at.
