Prestige Wrestling held their first event of 2025, the Jan. 11 "Roseland X" on Youtube in a raucous, jam packed Roseland Theater in Portland, Oregon.
My first ever Prestige event but the lineup was very promising and too enticing to pass up.
With Calvin Tankman and Josh Alexander unable to attend (due to different but understandable reasons), the card had a few last minute changes and surprises.
Jordan Castle and Cody Von Whistler on commentary. Solid pair.
Midnight Heat (Ricky Gibson and Eddie Pearl) beat the Hammer Bros (Jack and Sledge Hammer) in the opener. I'm familiar with the Heat, who I think are the best Midnight Express cover band team in wrestling, but this is my first time seeing the Hammers. They were pretty good. Good match with some solid action.
In a non-title match, TNA Knockouts World champion Masha Slamovich won a 3 Way match over Kylie Rae and Hyan. This was originally Slamovich vs Rae but one of the matches that was reshuffled.
My first glance of a heel Rae and she wears it well. Very good match with Slamovich putting down Rae with the White Night Driver (a short piledriver). Haven beaten Havok at the REVOLVER show Thursday, big weekend for Slamovich.
In a surprise bout, Prestige Wrestling fan faves and former tag champions C4 (Cody Chhun, Guillermo Rosas) issued an open challenge, answered by West Coast Pro tag champions The Crush Boys (Titus Alexander, Starboy Charlie). They not only get the match booked but it's for the West Coast Pro titles. This was a great one. A thoroughly entertaining and physical bout with the Crush Boys retaining.
Code of Honor adhered after the match.
Timothy Thatcher defeated Adam Priest. Good match with a good story of Priest being a bit intimidated by Thatcher, relying on his wits to gain advantages but still coming up short.
Matt Brannigan, who I've never seen before, came out and announced since his match with Kylie Rae had been canceled, he had 8-10 minutes to do whatever and he chose drinking a colorful cocktail.
Unfortunately for him, he did have a match: TNA star Jake Something. Entertaining. Good bit of shenanigans on Brannigan's end with some good wrestling as he tried everything to offset the powerhouse Something. Probably shouldn't have chugged that cocktail. Something wins with...
Settling a violent feud (one I was unfamiliar with but commentary put over and explained pretty well) DreXL teamed with death match icon Matt Tremont to beat DreXL's former friends Elliot Tyler and Sid Sylum in a Devil's Playground match (a death match with a lot of stuff meant for bloodletting). I'm not a big fan of these but the live audience loved it and they definitely delivered on the violence and bloodshed.
UltraPOWER (Ameera and JAIDEN) won the Prestige Tag Titles from Sinner & Saint (Judas Icarus, Travis Williams) of The Northern Armory (in TNA with Josh Alexander)/The Noize (in Prestige with Alan Angels). Another good match but different from the other tag matches (so refreshing in 2025) in that this one featured dominant heel champions with the challengers fighting from underneath.
There was the stipulation that if Sinner & Saint cheated or received any outside help, they would lose the titles. They still tried and nearly pulled it off but ------, who they have history with, told the referee what happened. UltraPOWER beat S&S with matching crossfaces to win the tag titles after the match was restarted.
Prestige champion "The Frontman" Alan Angels survived a game title challenge from Mike Santana in the semi main event. Might be the best Angels match I've ever seen. Under-utilized guy in larger promotions. Santana continues looking excellent since leaving AEW and the reaction in Portland shows he's extremely popular in every market, a steal for TNA. Angels didn't have the same stipulation as his stable mates Sinner and Saint so it was with some help from Icarus and Williams that he pulled it out. Sinner & Saint then give a post match beating to Santana--who they had just lost to on TNA TV Thursday night--and promised he will lose at the TNA Genesis event on Jan 19 to Josh Alexander. Nice bit of cross promotional business there.
Kevin Blackwood, fresh off winning the West Coast Pro title the night before from Titus Alexander, beat Masato Tanaka (last minute substitution for Josh Alexander, a replacement for his own match with Calvin Tankman), the last stop of his tour of the US, in the main event. Tanaka had split his previous bout--a win over Jake Crist in REVOLVER on Thursday and a loss to Jake Something in West Coast Pro on Friday--so he was looking for a win. There was some early chair swinging and strikes but this was mostly a hard fought, physical bout between two heavy hitters. This was great. Blackwood wins with a double stomp off the top, putting Tanaka through a table.
A very entertaining show worth checking out. Well paced with a lot of great action.
