It is Wednesday and AEW Dynamite is at the VBC Probst Arena, in Huntsville, AL. Our commentary team is Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, and Taz.
Will Ospreay vs Brian Cage w/Lance Archer
Don Callis joins commentary but first he addresses Ospreay and we see Kenny Omega was attacked backstage.
Cage attacks Ospreay as Ospreay is seeing Omega on the big screen. Ospreay tries for a hurricanrana and Cage blocks it. Ospreay fights his way free, but Cage whips him to the corner. Ospreay comes off the top and hits a hurricanrana. Cage rolls to the floor and when Ospreay leaps front he top, Cage hits him with a shoulder tackle. They brawl on the floor Ospreay leaps into a vertical hold by Cage who walks around the ring before hitting the back suplex.
Cage goes to the ring and distracts the ref as Archer and Callis attack Ospreay. Cage returns to the floor and slams Ospreay ‘s head into the announcers table and then drops him back first onto the ring apron. In the ring, Cage works over Ospreay in the corner. Ospreay lays in chops, but Cage cuts him off. Cage grabs a rear chinlock. Ospreay frees himself with a jawbreaker. And comes off the ropes into a spinning backbreaker by Cage for two.
Cage lays in blows and then puts Ospreay into the corner for more attacks. He whips Ospreay chest first into the corner for two. Cage grabs a bear hug and Ospreay fights his way free and Cage lays in blows. Ospreay is whipped to the ropes and he hits a back spring corkscrew kick. Ospreay fires in forearms and then a kick to Cage’s midsection. Ospreay goes to the top and when Cage goes to join him, Ospreay traps him there for a kick and a springboard elbow for two.
Ospreay calls for the hidden blade, and Cage attacks him in the corner. Cage is kicked to the floor and Ospreay dives onto him with a backflip from the ring. Don Callis leaves commentary. Cage is rolled into the ring and Archer yells at Ospreay, distracting Ospreay for a clothesline from Cage. Cage brings Ospreay into the ring the hard way for two. Callus rejoins commentary, claiming he is in danger from Ospreay. Cage puts Ospreay on his shoulders. Ospreay tries for a hurricanrana and Cage blocks it again. Ospreay gets a pair of hook kicks and tries for a cutter Cage blocks. Cage gets a discus lariat and a sit out Liger Bomb for two.
Cage gets a lariat in the corner and then pulls Ospreay to the top. He hoists Ospreay on his shoulders and then hits a F5 from top for two, and Ospreay gets a foot on the rope. Archer shoves his foot off the ropes. The ref sees it. Ospreay finally gets the hurricanrana and projects Cage into Archer. Ospreay then turns a clothesline into the Styles Clash for the pin and the win.
Winner: Will Ospreay
Archer attacks right after the pin and Cage joins in.
Then, we get Kenny Omega’s music and he runs to the ring, chair in hand. Omega clears the ring and he and Ospreay hold the ring until Kyle Fletcher and Konosuke Takashita attack them from behind. All four of Callis’s men take out Omega and Ospreay and stand over them in triumph.
Renee Paquette is trying to get a word with Swerve Strickland and Adam Page blows past her into Swerve’s dressing room, and says it’s none of Renee’s business. Swerve isn’t there. Renee then sees MJF and he says he will prove his words are prophesy. He says tonight Jeff Jarrett will have to face Claudio Castagnoli alone. His new offer is the Last Outlaw’s Last Ride. Oh, and MJF says that Claudio is half man and half horse. So that’s new.
Powerhouse Hobbs says he’s not cleared to travel and when he is cleared, he will show Big Bill that Hell is just the beginning.
Claudio Castagnoli vs Jeff Jarrett
They lock up and go to the ropes and into the corner. They break and Jarrett throws hands. They run the ropes and Claudio gets a shoulder tackle, but Jarrett gets a series of arm drags. Jeff is able to mount Claudio in the corner for blows, but Claudio carries him out for an atomic drop and a clothesline for two. Claudio goes for a neutralizer and Jarrett rolls though into a figure four. Claudio gets to the ropes for a break.
Claudio waves Yuta in to join him and we go to picture in picture. When return to full screen, Calduio whips Jarrett into the corner, gets an uppercut and covers for two. Claudio is kicked off Jarrett, but follows up with a double stomp for two. Claudio whips Jarrett to the ropes and Jarrett comes off and grabs a Russian leg sweep. They trade blows in the middle of the ring. Jarrett finally drops Claudio and when Claudio gets up Jarrett starts kicking Claudio’s legs.
Jarrett gets an insigiri but Claudio is able to grab the giant swing. Claudio's knee gives out quickly and instead goes for the sharpshooter. Jarrett powers out and reverses the hold. Yuta slides a chair in the ring and Yuta goes to get in the ring and Jarrett breaks the hold. Claudio grabs the chair for an attack but misses. Jarrett goes for the stroke on Claudio but Jon Moxley hits the ring. Mox hits a paradigm shift, but the ref was distracted and didn’t see it.
Claudio gets a neutralizer and then hits a really poorly done pile driver where Jarrett’s feet hit the mat first for the pin and the win.
Winner: Claudio Castagnoli.
MJF comes to the ring and says he just came out to say…and then nails Jartrett with the Dynamite Diamond Ring. MJF says he respects his elders and that’s why he won’t say I told you so.
Renee is with Ricochet and she lets him know if Swerve interferes in his match, Swerve does not get their match next week. Ricochet says having the AR Fox is bullying him before one of the biggest matches of his career.
Ricochet vs AR Fox
Ricochet forces Fox to the corner and holds him there as he jacks his jaw. They run the ropes and Fox gets a shoulder tackle and then a side headlock takedown. They go to the corner where Fox gets a cutter off and then a corkscrew brain buster and Ricochet rolls to the floor. Dive Time!
Fox gets a series of attacks on the floor before Ricochet gets on the apron. They fight in the ropes and Ricochet gets a hip toss on the apron. Ricochet teases a dive and then doesn’t give it as we go to picture in picture.
When we return to full screen, Ricochet gets a hip toss and then a spine buster. He hits a standing moonsault press for two. They trade forearm shots, and then crossboy into each other. Fox dodges a clothesline and hits an insigiri and a leg capture suplex for two. Ricochet gets a back elbow, but Fox gets an iconoclasm into a cutter and then a 450 from the top for two.
Fox hoists Ricochet and Ricochet escapes by grabbing the ref’s shirt and hits Fox with a knee-based jawbreaker for two. Ricochet gets the spirit gun and a Vertigo for the pin and the win.
Winner: Ricochet.
Right after the match is over, Swerve attacks Ricochet and beats him down in the ringside area. In the ring, Ricochet grabs Fox and holds him in front of himself and holds a pair of scissors as he backs up up the ramp to the backstage area.
We get more of the Interview between Renee, Mox and Claudio and Mox says he won’t show the world title because people don’t deserve it. HE is the world championship so look at him.
Jericho’s New York Minute is hyping his new movie, showing on Shudder Friday. Large William then says he has put Jericho’s words into action by beating down Powerhouse Hobbs and he fools stronger. Jericho says William’s words made him proud of…himself. Jericho says he needs to take Hobbs out. He then hypes the match between him and Bryan Keith facing the Outrunners on Saturday.
Jay White vs Wheeler Yuta
I love that Yuta simply gets booed when he comes to the ring. He’s not a cool heel, just a heel people hate.
White goes a Blade Runner right away, but Yuta escapes to the floor. When the bell rings, Yuta Zbyszkoes out to the floor. Yuta returns to the ring and they trade arms bars. White gets a chop that drops Yuta. White keeps hitting chops on Yuta on the mat and then stomps and chops. Yuta gets to his feet and White lays in more chops. White gets a BIG back body drop. Yuta is dropped crotch first on the top rope and then is knocked to the floor.
White goes to the floor and works over Yuta. When the ref tells them to get in the ring, Yuta gets a drop-kick to White’s knee. He runs White into the ring apron and then the ring steps. Yuta puts White’s leg in the ring framing and then stomps on White’s knee. They return to the ring and Yuta gets a fisherman’s suplex as we go to picture in picture. Well, we are supposed to but we stay with the match and Yuta keeps working on White’s leg. THEN they go to picture in picture.
When we return to full screen, they are fighting on the turnbuckles and White elbows Yuta to the mat. White is able to get a dragon screw and then puts White on the top. White joins him and they fight on top and Yuta rakes White’s eyes. White goes back up with Yuta and gets a superplex from the top for two.
Yuta gets a chop block and then grabs a single leg crab. White crawls to the rope and finally gets the rope break. Yuta yells that he has until 5 to break the hold. White escapes a pickup and Yuta kicks his leg and drives down White for two. White is able to get a snap mare and then an uri nage. White drags himself to the corner and tries to get a Blade Runner, but Yuta gets a rollup for two. Yuta gets a German suplex with a bridge for two.
Yuta goes to the top and misses a splash and instead Yuta gets a back elbow. Yuta runs into the Blade Runner and covers Yuta for the pin and the win.
Winner: Jay White
Really liked this match. A solid back and forth where both men sold their injuries through the match.
White hits another Blade Runner. Mox gets on the apron and while White is paying attention to him, Claudio attacks from behind. This brings out Cope and FTR to run off the Death Riders.
Dax says that they always run off when it’s an even fight. He has a problem with them attacking Ricky Morton last week. He says Dennis Condrey is here and he challenges the Death Riders to a Mid-South Street Fight in his name,
We get a recap of the Mariah May and Toni Storm feud. Renee is then with May on the stage and May throws a fit about Storm saying Toni Storm isn’t real. She says she was able to destroy Storm and she will hold the title no matter what Storm does.
We then get a promo video for the Gunn Brothers.
We get a video telling the story of the feud between Undisputed Kingdom, Daniel Garcia and Shane Taylor Promotions.
We then get a video from the Hurt Syndicate about winning the tag team titles last week.
We then get a promo video hyping Takeshita and it’s followed with a recap of the opening match.
We then get a promo from The Vendetta, Taya Valkyrie and Deonna Purrazzo, and they say Deonna should be in the match if not for Harley Cameron. And they are coming for her on Saturday.
Mercedes Mone (TBS Champion) vs Yuka Sakazawa
They start with arm bars and side headlocks. Mone gets a shoulder tackle. Yuka pops back up and they run the ropes and Yuka gets a shoulder tackle. Yuka gets a snap mare and then Mone gets a snap mare. Mone goes for an arm drag, but Yuka avoids it and grabs leg scissors and rolls Mone around and gets a two count. Mone tries for a rope climb arm drag, but can’t get the arm drag until she is back on the mat. Yuka goes to the floor and they fight in the ringside area and on the apron.
Yuka goes to the top and Mone gets out of the way. Yuka goes to the apron, and Mone sweeps her leg and then hits a meteora as we go to picture in picture.
When we return to full screen, Mone has a butterfly stretch and Yuka escapes and they trade blows. Yuka escapes a power bomb with a hurricanrana. Yuka dodges a meteora in the corner and Mone goes into the turnbuckles. Yuka gets an insigiri and then springs off the top rope with a missile drop-kick. Yuka gets a sheer drop brainbuster for two. Yuka gets a sliding lariat for two.
Yuka goes for another brainbuster, and Mone is able to reverse it for the three amigos for two. Mone walks over Yuka twice and then goes to the top. Yuka is up and meets her there with elbow strikes and then hits a superplex from the second turnbuckle. Yuka covers for two. Yuika goes for the merry-go-round and Mone reverses it in the moneymaker and Yuka escapes and hits a thrust kick. Yuka gets the merry-go-round for two.
Mone is able to slam Yuka into the turnbuckles with her feet, gets a backstabber and locks on a statement maker. Yuka counters with a rollup for two. Yuka gets an elbow strike for two. Yuka gets a German Suplex off the ropes. Yuka goes for the magical girl splash, but Mone gets her knees-up and covers for two. Mone gets a power bomb and then hits the moneymaker for the pin and the win.
