It is Wednesday and AEW Dynamite is at the Gateway Center Arena, in Atlanta GA. Our commentary team is Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, and Taz.
We start the show with Swerve Strickland and Ricochet arriving.
Then, in the parking lot Renee Paquette is with Jay White who starts to talk about how has to rely on people he’s not used to. The Death Riders come after White, but behind them are FTR and Cope as the Death Riders go after White, FTR and Cope attack the Death Riders. They all brawl in the parking lot and Marina Shafir carries off Renee.
Cash Wheeler and Pac come to the stage and continue to brawl there. The fight then comes to ringside and through the crowd. When they hit the ring, Yuta takes a Blade Runner, and Pac takes a Shatter Machine from FTR. The brawl continues until the Death Riders are driven from the ring and Cope challenges Mox, and Mox says he won’t face Cope. Jay White then challenges Mox and Claudio to face him and Cope in a Brisbane Brawl at Grand Slam.
Excalibur then gives us a rundown of the night’s card.
Will Ospreay vs Mark Davis
Don Callis brings out the surprise opponent for Ospreay which was an actual surprise as Davis was on Ospreay’s side when he came back from injury.
Callis joins commentary.
Davis beats down Ospreay, and then misses a senton and Ospreay is able to get a drop-kick as Callis explains that Aussie Open are signed to the Don Callis Family. Ospreay gets a big kick off the ropes, but David is able to get a big backdrop on Ospreay. Davis gets a dropped elbow on Ospreay in the corner for two. Davis holds Ospreay’s arm and lays in chops and hits a senton for two. Davis gets a vertical suplex and then lays in a kick to Ospreay’s back. Davis rakes Ospreay’s eyes in the corner and follows up by putting him on the top turnbuckle.
Davis gets a series of strikes and then joins Ospreay on the top. They battle on top and Davis is knocked down and Ospreay follows with a flying elbow strike as we go to picture in picture.
When we return to full screen, Davis is laying in chops in the corner, and Ospreay chops his way free until Davis stops him and runs him into the corner, followed with a release dragon suplex and a knee strike. Davis hits a curb stomp for two. Ospreay is able to get out of a pile driver and then hits a corkscrew handspring kick. Ospreay dives onto Davis on the floor and then rolls him back in the ring. Davis grabs Ospreay off the top and Ospreay escapes with a kick and then an Oz Cutter for two.
Ospreay calls for the Hidden Blade, but Davis strops him with a clothesline, and takes him down with another. Davis hits a pile driver for two. Davis pulls off the middle turnbuckle pad and then grabs Ospreay to grab it. The referee stops him from driving him into exposed steel and Ospreay gets a Hidden Blade for the pin and the win.
Winner: Will Ospreay
Ospreay grabs a mic and says he has a new best friend backstage that he is teaming up with at Grand Slam and we get Kenny Omega’s music. Callus tries to escape through the crowd as Omega grabs a mic. Omega heads to the ring and he and Ospreay shake hands. He then tells Mark Davis he has no clue what Callis has on him, help is there and there are people in AEW he can trust. Omega says hearing people’s voices gave him the itch so he had to come out and talk to the crowd.
Kyle Fletcher and Konosuke Takeshita come out and Callis is holding them back. Omega says if they want to do this now, they are ready, otherwise they need to train for their match at Grand Slam. He says now he is back, everyone gets to feel what he felt the last years in AEW, and this is a match to prove the future of the company is right in the ring.
We then get a video showing the build to the main event of Swerve and Ricochet later tonight.
The Hurt Syndicate comes to the ring and MVP has something to say. He has an official announcement and everyone needs to stand on their feet and show respect. The crowd does so. They then chant “We hurt people.” MVP gives props to Private Party and says they have a bright future, but they were the wrong people in the wrong place at the wrong time. He then says he is putting everyone on notice because when they choose your title, they will come and take your title. He then says if you want an opportunity to face the tag team champions, just step up.
The bells ring, the lights go out and the Gunns have returned.
The Gunns say they want to talk business, and MVP says they are conducting themselves like men, so they can come to the ring to talk business. They introduce themselves as former tag team champions. They have waited two years for a chance at their titles and that’s what they are here to do.
MVP says he respects their courage and they respect their father which is why the champions have not choked them out. He accepts their challenge for a match next week. The Hurt Syndicate leaves the ring and we’ve got a match for next Dynamite.
We are shown that Harley Cameron won her match on Saturday and Harley is in the back with Renee and her Mercedes Mone puppet. Harley will have a concert on Collision, and as she is having a conversation with Puppet Mone and Mone comes in from behind and is NOT pleased. She then mocks Harley by showing how many titles she is carrying and Harley has only won a single match, so she does NOT get a match at Grand Slam. Harley keeps trying to flip the bird to Mone, and Renee is grabbing her hand to stop her.
Adam Page is with Renee, and Page says he does not regret retiring Christopher Daniels. He did exactly what he said he would do and now Daniels will never wrestle again. We then hear Max Caster asking Renee to wrap it up. He then asks what would happen to Anthony Bowens and Billy Gunn in the hospital. Page says he doesn’t see Bowens and Gunn, but he does have time for a match tonight with him. Max takes off and Page follows him, saying he’ll help him in the parking lot.
Hounds of Hell (Brody King and Buddy Matthews) vs Kyle Fletcher and Konosuke Takeshita
Callis joins commentary again.
Buddy and Kyle start the match and move quickly to arm bars. They move to side headlocks. Takeshita tags in and they quickly go to waistlocks. King gets the blind tag and chops down Takeshita as Takeshita is glaring at Buddy. They throw hands and after Takeshita is dropped, Fletcher tries an attack from behind and King chops him down as well. King and Takeshita go to the floor and Buddy starts working on Kyle at the same time.
King hits a flying crossbody into Kyle and Takeshita on the floor and then after beating on Takeshita, he does it again as we go to picture in picture.
When we return to full screen, King has been kept in the ring with quick tags by Takeshita and Kyle. Takeshita is able to lift King for a German suplex, but King is up and they clothesline each other. Buddy and Kyle are tagged in, and Buddy works over Kyle with kicks. They fight on the apron and Kyle is tossed to the floor and Buddy dives onto Kyle and Takeshita on the floor. Kyle is rolled into the ring and Buddy hits a meteora from the top for two.
Buddy misses a curb stomp and Kyle gets a half-and-half suplex. Buddy is up and Kyle runs into a kick. Buddy goes to the top and he hears Kazuchika Okada’s music.
He does NOT come out.
Kyle joins Buddy to the top and Buddy drops him. He tags in King and they hit a double attack on Kyle in the corner. Takeshita gets a drop-kick and a senton to King to break up King’s pin attempt. Buddy and Takeshita fight on the apron and King grabs Takeshita with a choke from behind. Takeshita escapes by raking the eyes, gets a big kick and Kyle gets a DDT after draping King on the ropes for two.
Takeshita and Kyle double team King and hit him with an assisted brain buster for the pin and the win.
Winners: Konosuke Takeshita and Kyle Fletcher
We see Hook and Samoa Joe talking as they head to the Patriarchy’s locker room. Nick Wayne and Kip Sabian say that Christian Cage isn’t there. Joe says they can come back later. Or, they can leave a message and they beat down Wayne and Kip.
Cage and Mother Wayne show up right as Joe and Hook leave and ask what happened.
MJF is on his way to the ring to have a talk with the fans. He says he had to teach Jeff Jarrett a lesson after putting himself over, and the E is AEW stands for Elite and not Elderly. He then says he is one step closer to getting the World Title Back. Max Caster then runs into the ring and MJF starts bawling him out. However, he is still being chased by Adam Page. Page hits the ring and goes face to face with MJF and Caster takes off through the crowd.
Page then takes off after Caster and MJF says that he can get back to what he was saying before he was interrupted by a hack.
Then we get the music for Dustin Rhodes.
Dustin gets in the ring and Dustin tells MJF to shut up. He says he is sick of MJF running people down, including Owen Hart. He says he is sick of MJF bad-mouthing people surviving addiction because he was an addict and he’s gone to hell and come back and is hanging with everyone on the roster. Dustin says he’s been through everything that MJF can even imagine doing. He says he is better than MJF and MJF’s punk ass bitch ass knows it.
MJF tells the crowd to applaud him and says he’s not better than MJF because the drugs turned his brain to Swiss cheese. He then goes after Dustin fighting to get out of his father’s shadow. And now he lives in the shadow of his baby brother. Dustin then starts throwing hands and we get a pull apart brawl.
As they are pulled apart, MJF gets a low blow and then walks to the back.
Mariah May joins commentary.
Queen Aminata vs Toni Storm
Toni comes out mocking May by “pretending” to be her. At commentary, May acts like she is near tears.
Toni and Aminata lock up and no one gets an advantage. Toni gets a side headlock takedown. Aminata reverses it with a head scissors. Aminata then gets a side headlock takeover. Aminata gets an arm bar and then Toni gets a spinning slam. Aminata trips Toni into the ropes and Toni is able to knock Aminata to the floor with a hip attack. Toni then tosses Aminata to the floor and mocks how May fluffs her hair. Aminata dives onto Toni as we go to picture in picture.
When they return to full screen, Toni lays in blows on Aminata in the corner. Aminata is put on top and Toni gets a hurricanrana after charging into the corner and then hits a drop-kick for two. Aminata gets a jack knife pin for two. They trade chops, then slaps, Aminata gets a German suplex after they try for control in the ropes. Aminata gets a running boot as Toni is in the ropes for two. Toni reverses an air raid into a DDT and then a big knee strike. Toni hits a hip attack and then hits a May Day for the pin and the win.
Winner: Toni Storm
Renee gets into the ring and Toni asks her to call her Mariah May and makes fun of May’s promos. May leaves commentary and goes to the ring. May thinks better of it and grabs her belt before leaving.
In the back, Dustin Rhodes says he is still here and says he is the last of his kind and next Tuesday in Austin, he will beat MJF’s ass.
We then get a video of the feud between Big Bill and Powerhouse Hobbs.
It’s time for another New York Minute with Chris Jericho, Large William and Bryan Keith live at ringside. He says he is live from the ALT. Jericho says Bandido is not a wanted man because no one in AEW wants him. Jericho says there is a bounty on Bandido’s head, he will double the bounty from Bryan if he does to Bandido what Bill did to Hobbs.
And this brings out Hobbs and all three of the Learning Tree attack, but the Outrunners join Hobbs to attack the Learning Tree and it’s another pull apart brawl. Bill choke slams a security guard. Then Hobbs does the same. Bill and Hobbs get into the ring. They fight into the ropes and then onto the floor, over the announcer’s table and on the floor. They knock over a cameraman and we go to commercial.
When we return, it’s time for the main event, but the Learning Tree is ejected from the building in the back.
Swerve Strickland w/Prince Nana vs Ricochet
Ricochet attacks Swerve with a chair as Swerve is on the stage. He uses the chair to beat Swerve down to ringside. Ricochet rolls Swerve into the ring and jacks his jaw at him. Swerve asks for the bell to be rung and Ricochet gets a pump kick and then Vertigo for two. Ricochet gets a backbreaker and then lays in kicks. Swerve escapes another Vertigo and they run the ropes. Ricochet gets a drop-kick and then dives into Swerve on the floor. Ricochet pulls Swerve on top of the barricade and then tries for a pile driver, but Swerve fights his way out.
Ricochet goes for a hurricanrana but Swerve blocks it and power bombs Ricochet on the top of the barricade. They keep fighting in the ring as we go to picture in picture.
When we return to full screen, Swerve gets a back elbow in the corner and then Swerve goes to the top;. Ricochet grabs him and hits a lung blower for two. Ricochet gets a backbreaker and then a low drop-kick on Swerve on the mat. They get to their feet and Ricochet beats Swerve down to his knees again. Swerve gets an uppercut and Ricochet gets a series of kicks to drop him again. They trade attempts, but Swerve is able to get a power slam for two. Swerve grabs Ricochets’ leg and follows with a German suplex and a House call. Swerve goes to the top for the Swerve stomp for two.
They fight on the apron and Ricochet gets a neck snap in the ropes. Ricochet tries for a hurricanrana and instead gets a German suplex on the apron. Swerve is tossed into the ring and Ricochet gets a springboard 450 off the top rope for two. Ricochet goes to the top again and gets a shooting star press for two. Ricochet calls for the Spirit Gun and runs into a House Call and another stomp, but Ricochet gets a low blow when Swerves hits. Ricochet gets a Spirit Gun for the pin and the win.
Winner: Ricochet
Ricochet grabs the Embassy Robe from Nana and wears it as he walks to the back.
