Is it possible to bet on WWE in the US?

By Kendall Jenkins on 2025-02-14 06:14:00

WWE is more popular than ever. The recent deal with Netflix brought Raw, one of the three flagship brands of World Wrestling Entertainment, in the houses of millions of people all around the world. In order to raise the appeal of their product, the suits of WWE created a family-friendly show. However, we are still talking about a fighting environment and thus it is only natural to attract enthusiasts and fans who can’t resist a good old bout on the ring. As tradition goes, the audience likes to bet on the match they are watching but a lot of States in the US don’t allow betting on their territory.

Even if winners and losers are predetermined in wrestling and everything goes according to a script, exactly as it happens in tv shows or movies, sportsbooks allow betting on these fights. The category is known as entertainment betting. Even if legislation is different from State to State, in the US people can bet on WWE and AEW, the two most popular wrestling federations. One way is placing the bet at a state-regulated sportsbook, while another is doing so by visiting a website who operates outside the USA, with a legal permit to propose its odds inside the territory of the Federation.

There are a lot of ways to bet on WWE

In the United States, people can visit numerous websites, in jurisdictions where it is allowed, that offer betting on wrestling. These platforms are abundant and sometimes the search for the most suitable address for one’s needs can take a long time. In this context, it is useful to rely on a comparator that does the work of researching and selecting the best betting platforms. In addition, another advantage is that sportsbook promos are usually reported, so the bettor can try his or her luck without emptying his or her wallet. Which is not bad, obviously. Anyone can minimise risks while  maximising fun by betting only what he or she can afford to lose and exploiting an advantageous promotion.

How many bets can be made on wrestling? Actually, a lot. The bettor can guess the winner of a given match, by placing a victory bet without any difference if the W comes by points or prematurely. Similarly, one can gamble on the winner of a tournament, on the loser of the same or of a single match. A funny WWE bet is about which fighters will feature in the next cross-brand bout. WWE has three brands: Raw, SmackDown and NXT. Typically, fighters compete only inside the brand they belong to but, sometimes, the federation organises a fight between two or more athletes belonging to different brands. In those cases, it is possible to bet on who will take part in that particular event before WWE officially announces it. Bets of this kind are quite popular. Other common bets are on eventual disqualifications or the keeping or loss of a belt. In addition to these, it is possible to bet on other events while placing wagers on wrestling matches.

WWE operations and their influence on betting

When a federation has all these wonderful athletes under contract it’s simply impossible to keep them all employed. It is not a matter of trust or talent but a mere calculation of finance and screen time. Inevitably, roster decisions influence the betting landscape. This has been the case in recent days, when WWE cut relations with some well-known superstars, such as fan favourites Blair Davenport and The Good Brothers tag team, or ex-manager Sonya Deville. Obviously, the turnovers in talent is a part of the operations in WWE and it is as inevitable as injuries or the rise of new champions. It is a way to keep the environment alive and renew fans’ interest, of course, but it is also detrimental to bettors who are used to gamble on their favourite athlete until they can’t anymore because the federation released him or her, sometimes overnight.
