Did your opinion of the Rock-Cody angle change at all after Raw?
No, it didn't. To me, Cody has been booked like a pure babyface, a John Cena. He shouldn't even be considering giving Rock his soul in my view. So far, I hate the angle and I don't think it's necessary but if it drives ratings and ticket sales, they should keep it going. They aren't in business to make me happy.
I have this fear that they will do the Cody/Rock segment early. Cody turns him down, then somehow Rock puts himself in the chamber match. If that happens the Rock and Charlotte will seem like Vince booking and fans will start turn on HHH. Do you see this as a scenario that could play out?
That was my fear last week and the did nothing on Monday to alleviate it. Eps and I talked about it on the FMB. I could see something putrid happening like Cody turns Rock down so he immediately makes whoever wins the Chamber, in a beaten up state, fight him for the right to face Cody. If that happens and Rock wins, I will lose a lot of my excitement for WrestleMania.
Was Mike Johnson right back in the day, with the sign?
No, he wasn't right....or was he? Rock has killed my buzz for WrestleMania with his Hulk Hogan like behavior. I never liked Hogan but I always liked The Rock. Now he feels like what's left of Chris Jericho to me. I wish they both would just realize they are old and hang it up. Old men trying to stay young in a young man's business are a joke. And I want to make this clear, 30 years ago I was the only journalist at the time that saw the potential in Rock when everyone else didn’t. I am not a hater. Just the opposite.
As far as a sad fall from how good they used to be, what is more difficult to watch: Rock on the mic or Jericho in the ring? Both were among the best in those areas and now they're barely a shadow of their former selves.
I made that comparison above. I will say that Rock is sadder because to me, Jericho was never a 1, top guy. He was a 1A. Rock was a 1 and him forcing himself into Mania at the last minute just isn't necessary to me.
Do you think WWE had The Rock appear on Smackdown because the rating was so low on Valentine’s Day?
Maybe, I can’t say for sure. His appearance did draw a number but it also did that last year when he stole Cody’s Title shot.
