FORMER PORTLAND WRESTLING ANNOUNCER DON COSS PASSES AWAY

By Mike Johnson on 2025-02-26 08:03:00

The passing of Don Coss, who was the voice of Don Owens' Portland Wrestling for the final decade of its existence, was announced last night:

Coss initially started as a ring announcer for the promotion and would announce matches that were televised out of Salem, Oregon.  He would fill on as an announcer and interviewer for the weekly Saturday evening Portland Wrestling TV that aired from The Portland Sports Arena, a converted bowling alle  when the full-time broadcaster for the company Frank Bonnena had a conflict or was sick.

When Bonnena passed away in 1982 following a heart attack, Coss moved into the role for full-time announcer show that aired locally through 1992, when Don Owen shuttered the company.  For a period of time, Coss and Scotty The Body (later Raven) were the broadcast duo for the series.

In 2007, Coss acquired the rights to a Portland Wrestling relaunch promotion and worked with Roddy Piper, who was a massive star in Portland before his national explosion and lived locally to launch yet another version titled Portland Wrestling Uncut in 2012 on KPTV.

Coss had also worked for Portland Channel 12, KPTV as well as in local radio beyond professional wrestling.

PWInsider.com sends our deepest condolences to the family, friends and fans of Don Coss
