By Adam Cardoza on 2025-03-01 08:59:00

Wrestling Open “Heat”

2/27/25 Worcester, MA

Spotlight Match: Giorgio Lawrence vs “Evil Gay” Aaron Rourke

What an opener! Giorgio showed off awesome last week so this is a HELL of step up in competition! Lawrence is a kickboxing champ so he’s looking to swing those legs…but that doesn’t stop him from grabbing at Rourke’s hair early! Giorgio rams Rourke to the buckle and starts unloading a few of those kicks. It’s not enough to keep Evil Gay down. Cool kimura chokehold applied but Aaron won’t give in. Rourke with the leg lariat and jawjacker! Handspring double chop! Aaron goes for a split legged moonsault but the top rope lets go! Aaron

rolls right back and traps Giorgio in an alligator clutch for the win! That was the SMOOTHEST finish for this kind of malfunction I’ve ever seen. Ring crew immediately descends on the ring to tighten everything up and get the ropes good for broadcast. There’s a lot of chaos trying to get the ring set up again and we actually may be starting a little later as a result.

Match 1: Swipe Right (Brad Baylor & Ricky Smokes) vs Wrench Resolve (Jake Gray & Erik Chacha) (non-title match)

Swipe Right must feel like they should be commended for allowing this exhibition with the newer tandem and of Wrench Resolve. They clearly are overlooking them as Swipe Right are quickly swarmed and sent out packing at ringside. Smokes with the distract and Baylor with the eye rake gives the advantage back to the champs. Big beatdown on Gray. Smokes with a spin down slam for two. Baylor almost eats a rollup but quickly blasts a lariat. Jake finally free and tags Chacha! Erik unloading kicks, he trips up both champs and feeds them chest kicks! Tornado ddt to smokes! He barely kicks out! Baylor intercepts Erin on the top. Smokes tries a superplex but Jake bombs him out of there! High crossbody for two! Baylor trips up Jake and posts him. And the Super Swipe ends the contest for Chacha. Loved to see the tandem work from WR but the champs weren’t gonna walk out losers.

Baylor on the mic as Smokes holds Chacha down. “This is what happens when bums challenge main eventers. They go for another super swipe but Aaron Rourke is out to make the save and drive them off!

RJ Rude & Rex Lawless are out here. They say they are claiming Max Caster’s bounty on Ichiban. Can they SCAR Numero uno that much?

Match 2: Rex Lawless (w/ RJ Rude) vs Ichiban

Rex definitely has a better shot against Ichiban, looking at the sheer power gap. Ichiban tries to out speed him but runs right into a boot. It’s time for “big man squashes tiny bug man”. Ichiban trying to fight but Rex keeps muscling him up and slamming him down. RJ tries to riff on Eminem on the mic but the only people he’s emotionally scarring are all of us. Crossface torture rack slam! Ichiban nearly wins via rollup! Rex turns the ichi Bankai into a spear! Ichiban still fighting! Rex misses a boot and hits the rope! Ichiban firing up! Ichi Bankai? RJ up on the apron…Rex tries the boot but hits RJ….Ichi Bankai connects! Ichiban gets the three!!! The Residency is furious!

DID YOU KNOW THET RJ RUDE IS IN A VERY GOOD POP PUNK BAND CALLED “ALWAYS GROUNDED”, JUST RELEASED AND ALBUM AND THEY ARE PLAYING A SHOW ON MARCH 16th AT THE CANTAB LOUNGE IN CAMBRIDGE MASSACHUSETTS WITH MY BAND “DnA’s EVOLUTION”???? - tickets are linked at dnasevolution.com and I’d love to see some of our New England readers there. Anyways, back to the recap.

Match 3: Danny Miles vs Jermaine Marbury (w/ Benny the Basketball)

miles may be without his Ranch buddies but the crowd gives him the full ranch treatment. Miles and Marbury get to it but the second rope breaks as Marbury tries to spring off. Miles capitalizes and starts choking Jermaine with the rope. Marbury weathers the storm, jukes and hits the Kobe! Miles tries a DVD but Marbury hits a crucifix bomb for two! Marbury goes to the top?!? Maniac! Miles pulls him off the top and hits a gutbuster for the three…TECHNICALLY MARBURY’S LEG WAS ON THE ROPE but it wasn’t connected to the ring at the time. He’s protesting! Miles says there’s no replays in wrestling. Good match.

The crew swarms to replace the rope again. Knowing that Open has a hard out time with this venue definitely puts the remaining show up against a stiff wall. Props to the BIOPro ring crew for getting the ring set again! This has definitely been a test for the production crew.

Match 4: Bryce Donovan vs Brando Lee (five minute challenge)

Donovan is coming out to music again?! Lee comes running right in but Bryce just hits him hard and slams him down. Pain school is in session. Lee starting to land dropkicks! Big crossbody is caught and tossed back! Donovan with a double chokebomb out of a sunset flip attempt. We pass three minutes…Lee with a suplex reversal into a stunner! Bryce immediately sends Lee to the floor. One minute left as Lee barely Makes the nine count. Bryce hits the black hole slam! Kick out! Huge lariat! Kick out! Bryce trying a cobra clutch….Lee survives the final 30 seconds. Time expires and since Lee survived…he’s the winner! Bryce is enraged and hits a chokeslam to make sure Lee FEELS like a winner. Brando on the mic. Bryce gave him everything he had and Lee is still standing. Donovan wants to continue this but says “next time, you’d dead!” Been loving to see how Brando has been working up the ladder these past several weeks.

Match 5: Zayda Steele vs Kylie Rae (WWE ID OFFICIAL MATCH)

Welcome back to Worcester, Kylie Rae!!! Zayda takes control early against Rae, using her good nature against her. This is very one sided. Kylie keeps trying to fight back but Zayda is all over her. Hangman’s X factor! Kylie boots free! She tries to drag Zayda down but Steele rakes her eyes. Kylie finally with a lariat! Flip through a whip and a low head kick for two! Good sequence. Both trying to finish this quick. Zayda with a tilt a whirl facebuster for two! Kylie finally wraps Zayda in a crossface for the tap out win! Kylie offers a respectful handshake after the match but Zayda slaps her. “I’m better than THAT”. Something was off with this one. Entirely probable folks felt a little gun shy about the ropes and maybe that affected their confidence/chemistry.

Match 6: Fancy Ryan Clancy(c) vs Ray Jaz (for the Wrestling Open Championship)

We haaaaaaate Ray Jaz here and he is letting that feed his initial beating on our champ. Clancy trying to chop Jaz up but Ray is more than happy to take whatever liberties he can to stay on top here. Clancy tries for that KO dropkick but Jaz holds the rope. Belly to belly into the buckles! Jaz chases the champ out of the ring. Clancy looks like he’s hurting but Jaz won’t let up. He does a really good trip up slam. Clancy starting to pick up steam. He goes for the dropkick and Jaz hits a RIDICULOUS spear out of the air. That was REALLY GOOD. Jaz with slams and suplexes. Clancy with a roll up and German! German flip facebuster! Clancy with a thez press! The champ is fired up! The crowd is with him! Clancy with a figure four! Jaz fighting and gets it over! Fight to the apron! Jaz tries a German to the floor but Clancy holds the rope for dear life! A dangerous game with how those ropes have been. Jaz slammed to the apron! Clancy misses the fancy splash! Crowd chanting this is awesome. Jaz with the cradle driver! Finisher 1 is kicked out! He applies the Jazmission! Clancy fights to the rope. Jaz looks like he wants that backslide but Clancy hits a DVD! Clancy comes running…right into a Ray Jaz dropkick! Clancy only takes a two on his own finisher. Slow punches back and forth as they try to fire back up. Ryan hits a hard shot. Scuffle in the corner as Jaz is trying to catch the champ but Clancy finally catches him with the KO dropkick for the win!!! This was awesome. Clancy is awesome but (and I am being 100% honest here) Jaz is severely underrated (because we hate him so much because he sucks).

Cue Brad Baylor. He’s out here to TALK to Clancy, as Jaz stumbles to the back. Baylor offers congrats…but he says that he wants more than just his tag team title. He wants Clancy’s title too. But not HERE. Baylor wants to wait til March 31st. Wrestling Open’s debut in Rhode Island. He throws down the challenge….Clancy accepts! The Rhode Island debut has a huge main event!
