Author Ian Douglass has an absolutely excellent and meticiously researched piece on the late Clarence Bouldin, who likely was the first ever Black Man to be World Champion, but it wasn't known at the time as he lived most of his life as a white man and was billed as Cuban while wrestling. This is the type of story that should be made into a film and it's an excellent piece by Douglass that you can read at this link.
If you haven't seen ViceTV's Dark Side of the Cage, the two-part episode on the rise and fall of PRIDE fighting in Japan touches upon a lot of professional wrestling names in Japan and is well worth watching. The season finale also features the story of Ronda Rousey:
