THOUGHTS ON THE JOHN CENA TURN EDITION OF THE Q AND A

Since you didn’t blog the show, I have to ask.  What are your thoughts on John Cena turning heel?

I was not a fan of it, for a few reasons.  One, John’s character has always been a pure, ultra babyface.  He has always been about working hard and doing things the right way in his presentation by WWE.  But he turns heel now with only months left in his career so he shows everyone that he was a fraud all along. From a character standpoint, he was a great guy when everything was going his way and Vince was giving him everything. Then, when times got tough, he turns heel to get what he wants, Hustle, Loyalty, Respect be damned.  To repeat, that means he was a fraud all along to me as a fan.  Now he wanted to turn heel, it seems, so they did what they did.  Steve Austin also wanted to turn heel and they let him do it, and it was a bomb. If Cena forced it on them, I guess there wasn’t a choice but to me, it felt like Vince Russo booking.  Was it shocking in the moment?  Yes it was.  Was the execution good?  Sure.  But does it make sense to me?  Nope. First Rock hates Cody. He does a throat slash late last year. Then he was nice to him on January 6, followed by him telling us that he and Cody became great friends after WrestleMania.  Then, of course, he demands his soul. It that makes sense to people, great.  It doesn’t make sense to me. Was it shocking?  Yes.  Did people not see it coming?  Yes.  Why didn’t they see it coming?  Easy, because it didn’t make logical sense!  It’s easy to shock people when there is no factual logic to the story.  The one positive to me is that at least as a heel, Cena won’t do all of the hokey over the top stuff he does as a face.  As for Rock, to me he was not needed for Mania season when he forced himself into the main event picture.  I feel that even more now.

Triple H raved about the John Cena heel turn.  I have seen a lot of people say that they loved it and others say that they hated it.  What say you?

As you probably can tell above, I did not care for it.  At all.  If people liked it, great.  But for me, it took a lot of my excitement for WrestleMania away. If Cody wins, it's predictable. If Cena wins, it's a horrible booking decision.  I don't care about the match at all but I am sure others will.

Do you think Triple H really loved the Cena turn, or is he just saying that because Rock (and it appears Cena) forced it upon him?

I honestly don’t know. If it were me booking, I wouldn’t be happy that I had to do it.

How do you think CM Punk think about once again getting upstaged by John Cena, just like he was a decade ago?

I can’t speak for the man but if it were me, I know that I wouldn’t appreciate it.  I have never been a fan of part timers coming in and taking top spots away from the talent that work all year and I still feel that way today.  Cena is a legend, no doubt, but to me he was the least worthy winner of the Chamber match.

Didn’t WWE learn their lesson with turning Steve Austin heel?

We shall see I guess.  I think fans will boo Cena because they love Cody but I think that if they were given a choice, they would rather cheer for him on his last run.  Maybe they will turn him back to babyface after Mania, but it just seems forced to me.
