After Rob Van Dam was critical of the Jon Moxley-Adam Copeland suplex onto the nails spot on his podcast, a number of fans on Twitter attacked Van Dam for having his stance after working for ECW.
To review, Van Dam's initial comments:
"I thought, you know, it’s not my thing. Not my kind of thing. That’s not wrestling to me, but, obviously, it’s sacrificing a lot for the business. I mean, that could be said about it. But the more AEW has been doing stuff like that, the more personally I feel like I would rather be associated with WWE than AEW. A couple of years ago it was like, man, they’re growing, they’re trying things, you know, to get up there and then there’s a feel that like the inmates are running the prison, which there always has been, for better or worse. I mean, that was used as a good point at first. You know, like hey, the boys are running it, cool. But for me, an example of why that might not be a good idea [is this spot]. But it is a style of wrestling. I put that with the light bulb matches, the death matches where two people grab each other and jump off the back of a truck and land on a pile of light bulbs. That’s not my kind of wrestling, and it’s something that I personally look at as being lower than the standard...substandard, because it’s going to draw only a certain niche crowd that’s into that kind of stuff.”
RVD took to Twitter to respond to fans he felt were hypocritical in their responses:
Some fans on here are another level of ignorant.

1-concussions are a part of my past, not my present or my future. No matter how much you don’t know.
2- i’ve always said the abyss spot when he murdered me with Janice was stupid. I’ve always said back in Ecw, the garbage… https://t.co/O9Zp8zOLYc
Are you saying I loved this, it was my idea, or just that I did it? Someone who wasn’t Wrestling wrote this and I always said it was stupid.

OK, what do you have now?
Do you think Moxley did what he was told or it was his idea and he loved it?
When fans remind me how stupid… https://t.co/KzKCxtUPOw
Watch any interview I’ve done since 2012 where I’ve talked about Abyss and Janice. It was ridiculous and I say so every time. I went over on my obligated dates and Janice killed me off for the rest of the year.

It wasn’t my idea. It wasn’t my expression of good Wrestling. It…
I think I’ve done that a couple times now so if you still don’t understand, I can’t help you. I was not a fan of Janice or abyss murdering me. that was not wrestling. Does that help you out or nah? https://t.co/TiGfWWnlhW
