The Wrestling REVOLVER made their debut in the red-hot wrestling city of Chicago at the Logan Square Auditorium, live on TrillerTV.
Bork Torkelson and Veda Scott were on commentary. Another solid job by them. Like the previous WR event, they were more restrained than usual, making them easier to listen to.
TNA X Division Champion Moose defeated WWE ID prospect Marcus Mathers in a non-title match to open the show. Good opener. Mathers got to look competitive and gain a lot of sympathy against the much larger, far more experienced Moose, with the champion's power being too much at the end. Moose was playing nice the entire time—shaking hands on his ring walk, shaking hands with Mathers before the match, and being a good sport after. If Moose wants to be a face again in TNA, he could do it.
In the only women's match on the show, former TNA Knockouts World Champion Jessica Havok of The Macabre (with Gia Miller, who is killing this new look) beat "Ms. 450" Rachel Armstrong.
Similar to the previous match, with the much larger veteran having to fend off a game but smaller and less experienced young star. Havok got the win with a tombstone piledriver off the middle rope.
The Macabre went 2-0 for the night, as Dreadknot (the former Madman Fulton) and Alan Angels (no new name, but a great new look) successfully retained the WR Tag Titles in a 4-Way tag match over Tye Or Die (KJ Reynolds, Ryan Matthias), the debuting Chicago-based Latinos Most Wanted (Koda Hernandez, Sabin Gauge), and former champions Alpha Sigma Sigma (Brent Oakley, KC Jacobs).
More a sequence of big spots and moves and, again, the larger, more experienced veterans took control and got the win. I'm noticing a trend.
Podcaster BDE was (for some reason) scheduled to challenge for the WR Title but had to be pulled due to injury. As he was apologizing to the live audience, REVOLVER Champion "The Young GOAT" Myron Reed and his lady, Killer Kelly, interrupted him, mocking his injury and attacking him. This brings out Rich Swann for the save Swann eagerly steps in to take BDE's place, even though he is booked for the main event later. Reed reluctantly agrees They have a very good title match. I didn't like Kelly pulling the ref out of the ring on a pin. I HATE that. It should lead to an immediate disqualification or at least an ejection. Kelly tosses Reed a foreign object that he uses to strike Swann in the back of the head, pinning him with a springboard 450. A little odd to have your two top title matches in the first half of the show, but... it's REVOLVER.
After the intermission, Alphonso Gonzalex held off Juni Underwood, Jeffery John, Bigg Pound, REVOLVER regular the former Dark Pledge but now "Big" Dick Meyers (juvenile but made me chuckle), and Regan Lydale (the only woman in the match) to keep the Freelance World Title in a Scramble Match. The Freelance World Title is a Chicago-area title. It was fine.
Settling a beef started at the Goated show last month, Dante Leon failed to get revenge on his one-time partner (as in partner just one time), JJ Garrett, who attacked him after they lost a tag match.
Another good match. Two young guys looking to impress out there. Garrett was working heel and he's got some chops for it They got a little messy introducing doors and chairs to the equation.
Bizarre finish where Leon hits a dive on Garrett, putting him through a door propped up on chairs, but Garrett rolls him up in a crucifix for the clean pin. Why have the door if it plays no real part in the finish?? Sigh.
Hoss Fight time as Crash Jaxon used his right as Remix Champion to make his title defense against Calvin Tankman a Chicago Street Fight. Smash-mouth action with a lot less plunder than you would expect, also making it a lot less messy than I would have expected. Jaxon hits a uranage on Tankman from the middle rope onto a pile of chairs and pins him with a top-rope splash. Tankman clearly has a good fanbase in Chicago because those folks were not feeling Jaxon, who is normally one of WR's more popular guys.
The main event was a 10-Man Elimination Tag Match featuring the newly formed (as in last month at Goated) Chicago Over Everyone—Mustafa Ali, Davey Bang and August Matthews (Bang and Matthews), Gringo Loco, Joe Alonzo—beating Team REVOLVER—"Firestarter" Jake Crist, "Bulletproof" Steve Maclin, Rich Swann, Trey Miguel of The Rascalz, and "The Inevitable" Ace Austin, a last-minute sub for Zachary Wentz. A standard elimination match with gauntlet/War Games entrance rules, starting with one man from each team for the first two minutes with one entering every 60 seconds. There is an early hiccup where they say the man who is dominant after 2 min will be joined by a teammate, giving him a 2-on-1 advantage. Alonzo had the upper hand on Swann (doing a good job of selling his match from earlier), but it's Maclin who comes out, not one of COE. Other than that, this was a well-laid-out match that saw COE take a huge lead of their entire team vs. Swann and Austin. The two former X Division Champions rally, but it ends with Ali and Alonzo being the final entrants in the match, last eliminating Swann.
Very good overall show. Light on normal REVOLVER excess, both in the ring and on commentary, making for an enjoyable and less repetitive-feeling show.
