Spotlight Match: JGeorge vs Handyman Jake Gray
Jake has some stuff in his toolbox that he’s good at. Jgeorge does NOT like getting wrenched like that. Wrestling’s prolific director spends a while trying to beat Gray back onto the film crew. Jake fires back up and brings the crowd with him, wrench assisted lariat for the win! Fun kick off! Honestly, I like this version of JGeorge who wrestles and leaves most of the film director shenanigans at home.
Lauren St James is filling in on announcer duties tonight. Paul Crockett is up in the commentator station. Every Thursday Forever continues in Worcester now!
Match 1: DJ Powers & Georgio Lawrence vs Brad Hollister & Love Doug (w/ TJ Crawford)
We have dubbed DJ & Georgio as the “Moist Boys” because unlike our distant friend Mortar, they are the wrong side of wet. Face Bacon is still wild to me but he is keeping the crowd behind Doug as he endures a beatdown. TJ Crawford seems like he can’t be bothered. He is very “present and accounted for”. Doug with the tag and a very fired up Bacon runs wild. Big pop for Brad. Doug and Brad almost have this in the bag but DJ feigns like TJ trips him up. In the confusion, DJ rolls up Brad for the three. The BETRAYAL Doug and Brad are feeling at Crawford right now, who is begging his friends to believe him.
Up next is one of the “Pick Your Poison” matches, ahead of next week’s clash between Hammer Tunis and Sammy Diaz. Who has the fastest draw at Open? Tunis thinks the Ranch has bought a suitable monster to drop Diaz.
Match 2: Sammy Diaz vs Rex Lawless
Tunis is so certain Rex is going to make short work of Diaz, he just heads to the back. Rex brutalizes Sammy inside and outside the ring. Diaz won’t stay down and Rex is getting annoyed. Sammy finally gets a chance with a cutter reversal off the top and a frog splash gets the three at the 6:03 mark. Tunis runs down to attack Sammy but he’s wise to it and gets out of there! Who does Diaz have lined up for Hammer?
Match 3: Brick City (Julio Cruz & Big Rizz Victor Chase) vs Brett Mettro & The Upgrade Jay Tunis
This Tunis IS an upgrade! On the surface, this is a babyface vs babyface match but there’s enough questions about a few folks in this match that it will be hard to see where it goes. Fwiw, Victor and Mettro seem to be having a blast for power for power in the early moments. But the newfound love the crowd has for Chase is really getting to his head, and distracts him from saving Julio after a Tunis eye rake. “I’m just trying to get the job done” says Tunis when his own partner protests. Mettro isn’t gonna stop fighting though and again, it seems like that aggressive side of him is showing through. But it’s all over when Chase tags back in, runs over Tunis and the tandem hits Brett with Business is Booming. Tunis is MAD and storms off but Brick City shows respect for Teal Steel before he leaves. Innnteresting.
Match 4: Angel Jacques vs Milo Mirra
Angel is more than just a pretty boy. He’s strong and skilled and is definitely laying a hurt on the king of pogo. But he also brought a full length mirror to the ring for preening purposes. So I guess he’s a parakeet. Milo finally reverses a suplex, hits a finlay roll and a phoenix splash for the win. Good showing from both newer faces.
6:03 is the pick your poison time to beat. Can Hammer get ‘er done? Sammy has a great opponent for Tunis….HIMSELF!
Match 5: Hammer Tunis vs Sammy Diaz
If Sammy makes Hammer go 6:04, he picks the stipulation for next week’s match! This is NOT what Hammer thought he was getting! But this does give an advantage…Sammy has been through a contest tonight already! Tunis trying to get the over with by any means necessary…especially by countout. Sammy ends up grabbing Hammer by the waist and keeping him from making it back into the ring. This is a double countout! Hammer didn’t win…therefore Sammy wins the Pick Your Poison!
What’s the stipulation next week? Sammy says the Ranch is barred from ringside…and the loser never works at Wrestling Open again. Get those Nahnahnah’s ready for next week, Worcester.
Match 6: Brad Baylor vs Channing Thomas
Baylor seems to love yelling at me during his entrance. I should keep that in mind. Channing is VERY over right now but it’s kind of a battle between a reformed scumbag and a total scumbag. Channing goes to the bag of tricks and that opens the floodgate for Baylor just cut all sorts of corners and lay a world class stomping into Thomas. Baylor is vicious, not letting up. Channing stuffs the butterfly and stuns the tag champ. Channing gets some licks in but his back gives out while trying for the piledriver. Baylor traps him with a backslide and some feet on the ropes seal the deal. Booooooo!
Main Event: Marcus Mathers(c) vs TJ Crawford (for the IWTV Independent Wrestling World Championship)
This could be an absolute banger. Slow feeling out early. IS this match the first thing on TJ’s mind or did the earlier drama get in his head? Both guys going for it here, Marcus showing WHY he’s been champ for 100 days and TJ showing just how hungry he is. TJ with a closed fist and he seems to be favoring that hand now. Back and forth this war goes, no one with a clear advantage. We hit the ten minute mark and I’m SURE this two could go the distance. TJ almost takes it home with a Styles bomb. Marcus tries a 450 but eats knees! TJ hits the silver bullet! Do we have a new champ?!? Kick out! TJ with a dodge and Marcus hits a Superman punch on Ref Bill! Another silver bullet! TJ grabs the IWTV belt….he looks like he might club Marcus but he thinks better of it! He helps Ref Bill back up and that’s the last he does…Marcus with a rollup, a destroyer, a bozo buster and a 450 puts the silver sniper away for the three! TJ is despondent as Marcus stands victorious.
The crowd appreciates the help out of this. “Both these guys!” They chant. Marcus is showing respect to him as the rest of Big Business comes down to applaud TJ’s effort! Crawford walks over and shakes the champ’s hand. Everyone hugs! Is TJ Crawford finally back from the dark side? He seems to like this appreciation! Good main event! Julio is there…I dunno. I still don’t trust it.
