IT’S WED… Wait! No, it’s Thursday! You know what that means!
AEW Collision is LIVE and on the air from Boston! “Timeless” Tony Schiavone and Nigel McGuinness are on the call for all the action tonight!
Side note: I want to thank the great Cory Strode for covering last night, as my wife has an unfortunate injury.
Tony and Nigel recap what I thought was a GREAT episode of Dynamite last night. I’m going to do this more like a blog tonight, if that’s OK. We’ve got a TNT Title open challenge.
Marina Shafir is beating the crap out of somebody—possibly a stagehand—as she enters the ring. Jon Moxley and the Death Riders join her, and they are PI$$ED. Boston hates Wheeler Yuta, who, I admit, I think a lot of. Boston reminds Moxley that he tapped out last night. Moxley officially doesn’t like the Young Bucks. He also addresses Samoa Joe, and Boston LOVES them some Samoa Joe. Moxley says he could have given Joe his space but won’t ignore him anymore. He challenges Joe to a title match.
The Death Riders take off.
Kevin Knight vs. Lance Archer (w/ Don Callis)
Archer attacks immediately. OK, here we go again. Archer is a guy they’ve tried to get over as a monster heel for four years. Knight is the new babyface who can’t beat top stars. In some alternate universe, Archer is main eventing every AEW PPV. Instead, he’s been treated as “less than.” Knight with a rana into uppercuts and kicks in the corner. A lariat by Archer that looks like it should KILL a man, followed by another.
We are told that Josh Alexander is the newest member of the Don Callis Family.
Big sliding dropkick by Knight. Callis blocks Knight from diving as we go to commercial.
Back from break, Archer flattens Knight with a lariat. Knight fights back. Huge forearm by Archer. Gotta be honest here—I have no idea where they’re going. We’re told Archer has 79 wins in AEW. That honestly surprises me, given how he’s been booked. Stomp by Archer looked good. Nice rana by Knight. Pounce by Archer. Buckle bomb by Archer. I honestly want that move banned, given how many injuries we’ve seen. Knight blocks Old School and nails a flying lariat. Springboard lariat by Knight—and he scores the pin.
WINNER: Kevin Knight
AEW cameras caught up with the Ops. They have an understanding among them. Powerhouse Hobbs is officially in the group. I hope Hook is OK.
Renee Paquette is with Kris Statlander and Jamie Hayter. They don’t LOVE each other.
Schiavone has a live mic and reads a letter from FTR, who offer a half-a$$ed apology. Tony is incredulous. FTR vs. Tony and Nigel! BOOK IT!!! Nigel “accepts” the apology. We then see the debut of Josh Alexander.
Josh Alexander & Konosuke Takeshita vs. Tomohiro Ishii & Rocky Romero
The result here is not in question at all. I LOVE Ishii and Romero, but they need to take a complete a$$ whipping here. This should be a squash. Ishii is amazing but should no longer be presented as a top guy. Rocky? I love him too, but he’s a coach. In the time I wrote that, this match should have been over. Alexander needs to dominate.
Back from commercial. Spanish Fly by Rocky off the top. Ishii tags in and nails some Germans. I wonder where Ishii stands in NJPW. Josh eats a dropkick. DAMN, I wish he were more dominant here. As a match, this is fine—it shouldn’t be. Fallaway slam by Josh should have ended it, but it didn’t. Alexander is excellent and should be treated as such. He can’t get a rollup pin. Alexander and Ishii are both down. Rocky refuses a tag from Ishii. Ripcord double forearms from the Callis Family. One powerbomb by Alexander and he pins Ishii.
WINNERS: Josh Alexander & Konosuke Takeshita
Rocky and Ishii argue. Rocky attacks and Trent Beretta joins him. Roppongi Vice is back together. Callis hands Trent a wrench and he nails Ishii with it. The Don Callis Family is expanding.
Lexi welcomes Mercedes Moné. Harley Cameron joins them with her puppet. Moné argues with the puppet. I do love me some Harley—though nowhere near as much as Nick Wayne’s ridiculously hot mother.
Megan Bayne vs. Two Women (one is Ashley Vox)
WINNER: Megan Bayne
No description needed.
We see an Anthony Bowens video. Love this guy!
TNT Open Challenge: Adam Cole vs. Claudio Castagnoli
God, I have ZERO idea what happens here. I’m intrigued. Cole means ZERO right now, Claudio needs the win AND the title. DO THE RIGHT THING. Cole is fighting for his life. Big boot by Claudio. Cole with a desperation choke. Cole is fighting for all he’s worth, including a running knee. Claudio sends Cole into the rail. It’s a fight, I’ll give them that. Claudio with a belly-to-back on the rail! That had to hurt. Claudio press slams Cole into the crowd. Lariat by Claudio for 2. The announcers wish Hook well in his recovery as we go to commercial.
We’re back. Match is still going. If the Death Riders are still a thing, then Claudio should have already won this. Claudio blocks the Panama Sunrise. Neckbreaker for 2 by Cole. Claudio with the big swing for 2 into a crossface. You can’t have Claudio lose, right? Uppercut for 2 by Claudio. Claudio batters Cole in the corner. Superplex for 1 by Claudio—Cole rolls him up for the pin.
WINNER AND STILL TNT CHAMPION: Adam Cole
Claudio destroys the announce desk. The Death Riders come out to calm him down.
We see highlights from Chris Jericho. Lexi is with Big Bill and Bryan Keith. Bill and Keith seem to disagree.
Dralístico, RUSH & Beast Mortos vs. Three Local Talents
Total squash.
WINNERS: Dralístico, RUSH & Beast Mortos
Renee Paquette is with Kevin Knight and “Speedball” Mike Bailey. Ricochet shows up, upset about losing on Dynamite last week.
ROH TV Title: Komander (w/ Alex Abrahantes) vs. Nick Wayne (no Mom)
Without Nick Wayne’s mom, WHY AM I HERE?!?! Wayne spits on Komander. I feel old—the combined ages of these two is 45. Wayne is good at lucha, as Komander knocks him around.
We see Christian and Nick’s Ridiculously Hot Mother watching in the back. Commercial break.
We’re back! Tony and Nigel are going hard on Nick being in the NJPW Best of the Super Juniors tournament. This would be a GREAT match on ROH HonorClub, but they give it away here. There’s an anti-Nick Wayne’s Ridiculously Hot Mom chant going on. I apologize to my beautiful goddess for the rudeness of Boston. Wayne hits a pump-handle slam for the pin.
WINNER AND NEW ROH TV CHAMPION: Nick Wayne
Mom is happy.
Toni Storm joins commentary
Mercedes Moné & Harley Cameron vs. Kris Statlander & Julia Hart
Hart may be young, but she’s got one hell of a future ahead of her. I can’t say enough good things about her. Moné had an amazing match last night. Tonight seems to be more entertainment-based. As expected, Moné and Harley are not getting along. Moné hits a vicious stomp to the puppet. The entertainment here is Toni and Tony on commentary. Julia dominates Harley for 2. Toni’s focus is on Moné, which makes sense. Storm says she is also a CEO—a Copious Estrogen Owner. Who am I to argue? We go to break.
Back from commercial. Moné hits Three Amigos. Statlander with a DOUBLE Three Amigos. Stat misses a 450. Storm complains about Fenway Franks, which I can totally relate to. Hart eats a double knee from Moné. Harley eats a Stat lariat. Statlander hits a lariat to Harley for the pin.
WINNERS: Kris Statlander & Julia Hart
We go to credits.
