1/1 & 1/9 WRESTLING OPEN REPORTS

By Adam Cardoza on 2025-01-11 19:24:00

Wrestling Open Week 157

1/9/25 - Worcester, MA

We have three weeks left until we leave the world famous White Eagle. What kind of shenanigans can we get up to before we say goodbye?

Spotlight Match: Love Doug vs Handyman Jake Gray

Good showing from the Handyman. He almost gets the win after a sling blade but Doug reverses the wrench and hits a rebound lariat for the win.

Match 1: Brad Baylor (w/ Ricky Smokes) vs Jermaine Marbury (w/ Benny the Basketball)

Jermaine is a favorite here but Baylor is operating with an extra level of determined cruelty tonight. Maybe it’s that championship belt he’s wearing. Maybe it’s the whole WWE ID thing. Maybe it’s the win over Ricky Smokes last week…but Marbury is having a rough go of this early on. Marbury surprisingly ends up with the win after Brad gets caught up messing with Benny the Basketball and gets counted out…just like Smokes last week!

Match 2: BRG vs Eric Chacha

We get ChaCha two weeks in a row?!? Chacha annoys BRG early with some stiff leg kicks but Brett just one arm slams him. The sweet victory lariat connects! Kick out! Chacha is VERY in this fight! He misses another lariat! Eric is staying in this! Hard kicks to the chest! BRG with a spear and finishes a very game Chacha with an Unprettier.

BRG calls out Eye Black Jack. He’s claiming he LET EBJ win last week. He wants Jack to come back for another round.

Match 3: Bryce Donovan (w/ Smart Mark Sterling) vs Brett Mettro

Brett doesn’t wait for Bryce to finish applying his wrist tape and comes right in. He frustrates Bryce early but the big man just plows Mettro over. Long beatdown of the BioPro kid, Brett tries to rally, avoid a chokeslam into a shoulder block! Sterling with the distraction is the key factor as Bryce blindsides the kid and hits a chokeslam for the win.

Sterling does NOT like being called Donovan’s sugar daddy. Bryce calls us out for chanting “Shook” at him and Bobby Orlando last week. So what IS going on? Bryce is about to say what Bobby told him at the Palladium….Jariel Rivera is out here to pitch himself as Bryce’s partner. Bryce asks if Jariel wants to be a part of this…he will take Bryce’s ring hook and make a STATEMENT next week. Bryce makes a statement that he’s coming for the Wrestling Open Championship.

Match 4: RJ Rude & Rex Lawless vs Shooter Boys (Anthony Vecchio & Aaron Ortiz)

Rex is convinced they are wrestling children tonight. Vecchio definitely keeps the monster unsteady on his feet. Ortiz tries to keep it going but the Residency just pummels him. Huge Lawless corner cannon ball. Ortiz is struggling but dodges a Vader bomb. Tag to Vec…he’s nowhere to be found! Residency finishes murdering Ortiz for the three. The EMT is out here as it looks like Vecchio might be hurt on the floor.

Match 5: Tiara James vs Spike Nishimura

James is just bullying Spike around the ring. This is a beating. Spike enduring whips, slams, bulldogs and has to kick out over and over. Spike dodges a senton and starts landing kicks. Spike gets gutted and a tiara thinks she has this locked in. James gets too into messing with the crowd and Spike rolls her up, traps the legs and gets the surprise three!

Match 6: Alec Price vs Sammy Diaz

Price may be a big jerk these days but he is absolutely the Northeast Beast. Him and Sammy go high speed but Price is just vicious in his attacks to end these exchanges. Diaz tries to launch in from the apron but Alec just guts him on the top rope. Every rally, Alec just bowls him over. Suicide dive to Price on the floor? Price hops to the apron and spikes him. Sammy eats a pull up bomb Out of the corner for two. Sammy hits a rebound cutter that finally drops a feral Price for a second! Sammy with a top rope rana! Top rope splash on Price for two! We have less than a minute left! Price hits a piledriver into apron…ref Scott is counting Sammy out but he rolls in as the ten minute expires and this one’s a draw!

Everyone chanting for five more minutes! Both competitors want it. We still have a ref. We’re doing it! I think this is the first extension in Open history. And just as ref Scott is about to ring the bell to start it back up…Price hops out of the ring and heads out the curtain. Booooooo!

Sammy Diaz has other things on his mind though. Lucas Chase turned his back on him and the Church of Greatness. He doesn’t know what the Church is doing right now…but he promises we will know BEFORE we leave the White Eagle.

Match 7: Steven Stetson vs Wildhound Johnny Rivera

Stetson is big mad that he’s across the ring from Rivera. He “deserves” better than this. He tries to disrespect his opponent early but the Wildhound proves he’s been getting better these past couple of years. Stetson sent for a huge backdrop sets up a top rope dive. Rivera lands bad and curls up in the corner. The ref puts a stop to the match and awards it to Stetson…but Steve goes on a rampage, manhandling Rivera, the ref AND the EMT! Paul Crockett slides in to shield the EMT as the lockerroom runs out to drive Stetson away!

Main Event: Big Business (TJ Crawford & Brick City) vs Fancy Ryan Clancy, Marcus Mathers & Gabriel Skye

This is a monster of a main event but the question is: Can Skye and Mathers co-exist on the same side with their impending clash at Electric Haze? Secondary: What IS going on with Big Business while Brad Hollister is sidelined? Especially now that TJ has a chance to take the title his boss lost. This is a fairly even clash early on until Big Business manages to isolate the IWTV champ. Skye with a hot tag and double head scissors to Brick City but that three man cohesion from BB is on display and Skye is getting the beatdown now. Skye fights them off, tornado ddt to Chase and we tag in…NO! TJ blasts Clancy off the apron. Mathers is there for the tag tho and he rallies back on TJ. Brick City charging through distracts Mathers but TJ gets caught in a blue Thunder bomb for two! TJ tries a double knee but he crashes into the buckles! Clancy finally tagged in! TJ wants out but Brick City is down. We’re starting to devolve into chaos. Clancy and Mathers with a dropkick side Russian combo on Chase! Skye with the double stomp! TJ breaks up the pin! Skye is mad this isn’t over and him and Marcus start to argue. Brick City throw Marcus out! BB with the triple team on Skye. TJ with a top rope splash but Gabriel kicks out! They go for a triple bomb but Skye tags Clancy! Fancy flies in! Head to head with TJ! They are giving a preview of their upcoming title clash! TJ dodges the dropkick! Tag to Skye! Butterfly German! He gives one to Cruz! One for Chase? Big Rizz is too big! Mathers with a superkick and cutter! Destroyer to TJ! Mathers with a dive to Julio and TJ! Chase is gonna dive? He runs right into the Clancy KO dropkick for the three! Solid 6-man main event here! Clancy shakes hands with both his partners….Skye and Mathers have some words for each other. Clancy tries to be a peacemaker but he realizes this is a losing battle and just lets them shout at each other as the show ends.
